September 23rd – Wanna Do Lunch?

Listening to the Holy Spirit:

How will they hear? Those who walk in darkness will remain without truth. I Am the Truth, the Way and the Life, speaking through My Word and Spirit to those who follow, and also those who have not yet chosen. My Spirit is for my children, those in which I dwell, and to call also those in whom I shall. Also, My Word, and the word and testimony of those with heart and mind immersed in the baptism of repentance and new life. All must speak. My Word forever goes out, but what of yours? I give Word, Spirit, and the working of My hand. Do not be shy in the giving out again. You must speak of your faith, and the truth in which you know. Be not ashamed. It is the tree of life for whom would otherwise perish. In gentleness of speech, and love and story, let them hear of the Light, the Truth, that My Spirit would draw through you.

Ps 40:9-10 (ESV) –  I have told the glad news of deliverance in the great congregation behold, I have not restrained my lips, as you know, O LORD. I have not hidden your deliverance within my heart; I have spoken of your faithfulness and your salvation; I have not concealed your steadfast love and your faithfulness from the great congregation.

Ps 66:16 (ESV) – Come and hear, all you who fear God,
    and I will tell what he has done for my soul.

2 Timothy 1:8 (ESV) – Therefore do not be ashamed of the testimony about our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel by the power of God,

Taking It to Work:

Talking about our faith at work can be very intimidating, especially talking with those who are not yet Christians. I say not yet, because it is very likely that some of those non-believers are being drawn to the Father, and will at some later time, answer His call. The thing to remember is ‘sometimes’. He wants us to be a part of that drawing.

When we think about that, many of us conjure up scenes where God is asking us to step way out of our comfort zone and preach to our fellow coworkers about, sin, repentance and the Good News of Jesus, leading them to the cross single handedly. Now that might be the case, and that is great if that is a possibility for you and your workplace, but for the vast majority of us, that is not how God plans to use us. It is much simpler, and way less scary than that. All He wants you to do, is share your stories, share a little of your life and who you are.

If you are serious about your faith, and I think you are if your taking time for these devotionals, your life already reflects God’s Word in the way you live. You have already experienced the truth in God’s Word, the freedom of forgiveness, your own, and then the release of forgiving others. You have stories of God stepping in, and strengthening you in hard times, testimonies of protecting and blessing that go way beyond coincidence explaining them. These are the things you share while you listen intently to their life story, one without those experiences of God, and usually void of the truth of God’s word and ways.

Then it happens, a friendship forms, and the light of your life shines Truth into theirs, and the darkness begins to flee. Before you know it, you’re inviting them to church, a Bible study or to small group, and the Lord finishes the call through others.

Say a prayer, then see who the Lord shows you, and set up a lunch with them. It will be the first step in a not-so-scary assignment, as His Word works through you, today.
