The voice of the Lord speaks of those things important to the Father. Behind you shall you hear, to go this way or that. Those who are My sheep follow My voice, for the direction I give are to green pastures, to still waters, also to places of sacrifice that you would walk as I walked, rejecting what is worthless, and giving focus to things eternal within the temporal. Objects of time absorb the mind and also the years, if not seen in the light of eternity. Many a worthless idol is adorned with the gleaming of this world, but in the attaining it is hollow, empty, taking much time, and with a promised reward ungrasped. Priceless it seemed, valueless to the heart. Turn from the empty, that you might receive what is greater.
Isaiah 30:21-22 (ESV) – And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left. Then you will defile your carved idols overlaid with silver and your gold-plated metal images. You will scatter them as unclean things. You will say to them, “Be gone!”
Bottom Line: How often have we worked for something that was promised to be awesome, but it turned out to be less than advertised. We fall for the bright and shiny things of this world far too often. We strive for things that end up costing too much, take too much time to take care for, and end up satisfying too little. Next time you find yourself beginning to drool over the next iphone, Tesla, or whatever it is that makes you “want”, listen to His voice in your heart. That “voice behind you” will take you down a better path to something much more valuable and lasting.
