The flower follows the sun; the earth follows the seasons, and the heavens their path. I give to you will, that you would choose the narrow way. Where do you aim? He who desires riches gains, but profits nothing. He who acquires wealth is not evil, unless for him it is his god, an idol then detestable to your God. Corruption is in the heart, as too the greatness borne of the Spirit, but who will you serve? The throne of your heart is not made for self, nor accomplishment, nor gold. Piled high, it stands empty until My invitation. I stand at the door. You hear clearly My knock. Your life is but a time of choice and test. I give you enough that you know My call. I have chosen you, that you might attend the banquet. Your life has been ransomed. Clear My throne, that you would not be empty for wealth.
Mark 4:18-19 (ESV) – And others are the ones sown among thorns. They are those who hear the word, but the cares of the world and the deceitfulness of riches and the desires for other things enter in and choke the word, and it proves unfruitful.
Bottom Line: It tends to be the arch-rival of many a Christian’s heart. The love of money is a silent and common enemy of the Christ-follower in today’s success-driven culture. The security, comfort, and feeling of worth can displace God’s rightful place in the center of our life. Money is not evil, nor is it evil to be wealthy, but if you love what it can bring you, find your security in it, work for it day and night, and it is more-or-less the focus of your life, then you need to search your heart. It may be time to clear the throne for the real King.
