Listening to the Holy Spirit:

Light is greater than darkness, for in light there there is life; in darkness no life can be. I Am the light of the world. They who bear My Name also have this light, giving life. Darkness is of My absence, rushing in where holiness is not. Do not fear the shadow, for it must flee the light, if only by faith you bear it up. Small is the candle that lights the dark room. Do not shrink back, for I AM your light, and the darkness can not extinguish they who carry My hope.

John 1:4-5 (ESV) – In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind.  The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.

Psalm 27:1 (ESV) – The Lord is my light and my salvation; whom shall I fear?
The Lord is the stronghold of my life; of whom shall I be afraid?

Micah 7:8 (ESV) – Rejoice not over me, O my enemy; when I fall, I shall rise; when I sit in darkness,
the Lord will be a light to me.

Taking It to Work:

We have a common enemy that wants us to feel hopeless in tough situations. Whispering in our minds thoughts that are not true, and are meant to drag us down. Even the spiritually strongest people you know fight these dark thoughts at times. Our response? Reach for the Light. The devotional today reminds us that light ALWAYS overcomes darkness, and like lightning through the night sky, the darkness has no defense against it.

If you have dedicated your life to Jesus, and are trying to follow Him, the enemy can only put you in darkness one way, and that is to convince you the Light is not with you. The apostle John, King David and the prophet Micah, all remind you today of the truth – nothing can overtake you. You carry within you a light in the Lord that the darkness cannot overcome, no matter how convincing that darkness tries to be.

Personal and professional challenges are entry points for the dark lies of the enemy to penetrate: complex situations in which you have little control, ongoing problems that seem to never clear up, and seemingly hopeless circumstances that continually try to drag you down. These are the playground of the enemy.

Know your scriptures. Know your power through faith in your sovereign God, a God of light and redemption, of power and protection, that is ever near, no matter how convincing the darkness is.

Shine your light. Step back and speak faith into your situation, and like Micah, expect God to scatter the darkness, as His Word works in you, today.
