Where do you look? To the strong – it is to self. To the fearful – it is to safety. It is when strength flees, and safety cannot be found, only then do you call? Then do you search, and I AM there; there as before the weakness, before the security was removed. It is a fool who does not eat until starvation sets his mind, or he who does not drink until the sun drains his limbs. Food and drink are to the body, as the Sustainer of life is to life. You shall not live full without the blessing, and abundance shall shrink to gleaning. For your help comes from Me, this is truth, but it is for the neglect of higher things that the need for help arises. My Word imparts wisdom that you would not trip for your own snare. I show the way that the found shall not be lost again, but you do not seek until storm, and you do not bow until begging. My Word in heart and eye is taken more in need than in contentment. This should not be so, for the child receives the meal from his father, not for great hunger, but before, that his father’s love would satisfy before the face sinks, and drink before the mouth runs dry. He that is Father of all gives abundantly before abundance is required, and the table remains forever full. It is the foolish son that does not find his seat at this table. Fit for sons and daughters of the King, but empty the seats have become, only filled of the famished, those who again have found the table of their strength empty, and the cistern of security dry with drought. They eat again only until they are well, and leave as a fool again to shure their table, to make thicker the walls of their cistern. Come. Come to Me and abide. Return not to what cannot last, food that cannot sustain, drink that cannot quench.

Matthew 4:4 (ESV) – But he answered, “It is written, “‘Man shall not live by bread alone,
but by every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

John 4:13-14 (ESV) – Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again,  but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.”

John 10:10b (ESV) – The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy. I came that they may have life and have it abundantly.

Bottom Line: We have heard it said that some come to Jesus just for the “fire insurance”. We have all likely heard the idea of “spare tire” faith. Unfortunately, we often treat God as a service mechanic that we only call when something is broken. And if we think we can fix it, we may never call at all. In our culture and in many Christian homes, prayers are not said until an emergency arises, and the Bible is not opened until the self-help books are exhausted.  At work it may be to execute our job description; and at home, we may need to provide for our family, but there is nothing that says it should be done in our own limited and sometimes insufficient strength. As Christians we are supposed to be going to Him before we need to, talking to Him in times of plenty and relaxation, at work and at play. That is our daily bread. As you go to work today, allow Him to nourish you as you go. Your seat at His table is as close as the seat at your desk.
