The freedom of repentance is great indeed, but where are My people? Great forgiveness is continual flow, but only for those who continue to bathe in it. For My cleansing is of living water, not of a single bath. The washing is of the feet, dirtied within the day, and the disease of the walk is avoided. You walk among the unclean, together you speak and dine. Worldly dust gathers within your toes, and the heel splits for the dry clay of earth. He who abides with Me must journey where I take him, but without cleansing, the feet of the traveler cannot carry him, for although the body is saved from destruction, the journey is made difficult without care of the feet. My people have only slight covering, protected not as the current day, but as those who travel lightly, open to the stubble and pebble of the road. It is so by My decree that the hard way of the sinner would not be forgotten, and the care for the foot required. Each day I call you; return to the cross of your cleansing. Bring with you the stumblings and sin of the day. Renew yourself in the waters of forgiveness. Repent, that the injury would be cleansed and again heal. Great is the freedom of unhindered feet, with them you will leap and carry the good news of My salvation.
Psalm 38:16-18 (ESV) – For I said, “Only let them not rejoice over me,
who boast against me when my foot slips!” For I am ready to fall,
and my pain is ever before me. I confess my iniquity; I am sorry for my sin.
John 13:10 (ESV) – Jesus said to him, “The one who has bathed does not need to wash, except for his feet, but is completely clean. And you are clean, but not every one of you.”
Bottom Line: Following our Lord is not easy. Our sinful nature, although it should be crucified, still kicks in desire to live. We are forgiven, but each day brings the need to come before our holy Lord and have our feet washed. Even though we are already cleansed in His sacrifice for us on the cross, and have been immersed in the cleansing waters of baptism, we still must complete the journey, and it’s hard to do with rocks and pebbles in our feet. His mercy is renewed each morning, and it is that much sweeter if we confess our stumblings each night.
