Taking It to Work:
Has it ever struck you that many of our bible heroes, those names that we are most familiar with, seem to have had very little problem with hearing the voice of God? Philip in Acts had no deliberations, or at least none recorded, where he was wrestling with whether he really heard from God through an angel or not. Abraham knew God’s voice so plainly that he agreed to do the unthinkable with Isaac. Moses talked to God. Joseph knew his dreams were of God. Prophets and kings alike called on the counsel of the Spirit of God routinely; His voice to them is recorded dozens of times throughout scripture. It had major impact on the direction of all those recorded, and often changed the direction of all the ancient world.
Fast-forward to today. Even within the church, if you were to announce that the Lord spoke to you in the elevator or when you were out camping, few would believe it really happened. We ourselves might be very surprised if it did. Yet Jesus said, “My sheep hear my voice, and they follow me.”
When you consider that everyday decisions in the workplace can have major impact down the line, and the fact we often make them alone or in a group, completely without the Lord’s counsel, I think we miss so much.
As sheep with a shepherd, we have someone who knows the way . . . the best way. Learn to listen; it is key to following, as His Word works in you today.
Acts 8:26 (ESV) – Now an angel of the Lord said to Philip, “Rise and go toward the south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.”
John 10:27 (ESV) – My sheep hear my voice, and I know them, and they follow me.
Gen 22:1-2 (ESV) – Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, “Abraham!” “Here I am,” he replied. Then God said, “Take your son your only son, whom you love—Isaac—and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on a mountain I will show you.”
Heb 1:1 (ESV) – Long ago, at many times and in many ways, God spoke to our fathers by the prophets,
James 1:5 (ESV) – If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask God, who gives generously to all without reproach, and it will be given him.
Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):
My sheep hear My voice, and they do not follow another. I call, and you do not recognize. I draw near, and you do not feel it. My plans are great for you – much and more still, beyond what you can imagine. But you must follow, therefore, you must hear. The workplace screams with demand. Your home calls that it too would be served. There is no quiet place that you hear Me. You feel Me now, but easily lost to the next hours of toil. Give Me time each day that you would know My lead. Listen, that you would know My voice. Be drawn to My Word, preserved for you for this day. Pray as you have been taught. Listen, that you would know the road to take. My sheep know.
