Taking It to Work:
If you have been a Christian for any time at all, you are already familiar with today’s scriptures. They are easy to understand, but very, very hard to truly live out. In a way, they separate the men from the boys in living out the Christian life.
Colossians 3:2 says we, as Christ followers, are to have our minds on the higher things of God, and not be so focused on attaining and maintaining the things of the earth.
We get that, but do we do that? Do we really keep our focus on the things God cares about?
If we were to be asked why we work so hard, what would our answer be? To provide for our families, better school, newer car, larger house, or maybe just to make ends meet and keep food on the table. All important, but God challenges to put all that in second place. He reminds us He gives the provision. He is our security. It is He that provides our every need, and with that understanding, we can raise our eyes to the bigger picture, the eternal things for which we were created
What are those things in your life? What is God calling you to, or back to, that you have pushed to the back burner because you have been focused on other things?
God knows about those other things, and if you need them, they will be given. Maybe through your work, or maybe by other means that He has at his disposal, but they will be given if you need them. Look at your past walk with Him. You can trust Him.
The bottom line: We have to work, but that’s not our highest purpose in life. You have a higher mission, a higher calling. For many of us that higher calling is at our work; to be the light and presence of God to those that need it, right around us.
Get back to prayer as you start your day. Use this daily devotional to get you into His Word on a regular basis. Get back to attending and serving at church if you have fallen from the habit, and before you know it, Monday through Friday, you will be thinking, living, and working with a Kingdom focus in all you do, as His Word works through you today.
Mt 6:31,33 (ESV) – Therefore do not be anxious, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.
Col 3:2 (ESV) – Set your minds on things that are above, not on things that are on earth.
Deut 2:7 (ESV) – For the LORD your God has blessed you in all the work of your hands. He knows your going through this great wilderness. These forty years the LORD your God has been with you. You have lacked nothing.”’
Phil 4:19 (ESV) – And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.
Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):
Again I say, turn away. The world gives permission for the unholy life, but I call you to turn toward holiness, toward those things above. All of the earth points toward attaining the things of the earth, but these are fleeting, in both value and promise. They satisfy but for little time, and burden for the rest. Seek not for these things, but for the priceless first of the Kingdom. It is these things that bring growing satisfaction, living water, and abundance the world cannot hold. Many of the burdens, attained through great toil, are required of your life, and the Father knows of these things, and will provide. With little burden when from His hand, and greater quenching and timeliness of need. Raise your appetite and toil to those things that matter to God, and the lower matter of men shall be His good pleasure to provide.
