Taking It to Work:

Something happens when a grandfather takes hold of his young grandson’s hand. Confidence, stability, and direction are instantly transmitted into that warm grasp. I still remember…the fear of tripping, or getting lost, or feeling alone was entirely expelled as that seemingly huge, but gentle hand completely engulfed mine. As a young child, I obviously didn’t fully grasp the entirety of who my grandfather was, and in reality, at that point in my life, I didn’t really have the ability, but I knew somehow his love, and I knew I could trust that hand.

None of us have walked the path of our lives before. Each morning brings a new, unknown day. As adopted children of the Kingdom, we have a Great Hand to hold, extended down from eternity that we would not feel we have to do it alone. Maybe we don’t fully understand the incredible God who extends that hand, and maybe often like an overconfident child, we don’t want it or think we need it (when we’re feeling “big”). But when the challenges of life come along, the Father’s hand always brings comfort, peace and guidance.

We may feel “big” now, but it is plain in scripture, that in the eyes of God, we are children. And if we are honest with ourselves, we still act like children in many ways. We may be leading thousands, or managing millions, but many of our childhood instabilities and insecurities are still with us, as we try to lead our families, our companies, and ourselves into a future that is new and uncertain.

We can’t understand our great God completely, but we should know the warmth of His grasp, and His desire to lead, protect and walk with us on our journey. Reach up to Him before each workday, as His Word works in you, today.

Isaiah 41:13 (ESV) – For I, the Lord your God, hold your right hand; it is I who say to you, “Fear not, I am the one who helps you.”
Psalm 94:18 (ESV) – When I thought, “My foot slips,” your steadfast love, O Lord, held me up.

Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):

In the beginning I knew you, your face fashioned by My hand, known completely that you would know and follow. Little can the created know of the Father. Beyond that of man’s mind is the beginning, and without grasp what will be. I have revealed, but only as a child understands the touch of his father’s father, so do you understand the Light. Even as the large hand gently wraps the soft of the young, so My eternal presence wraps your temporal soul, very near and understood only as the warmth of the sun is understood by the small and shivering. Knowing not the origin of its source, nor the power that projected its way, his eyes close in its comfort. Faith as a small child – understanding not, walking in trust, grateful for the great and aged hand giving peace and security along a path, also not known. My hand holds those the Father has given Me. Abide in Me, and I in you, My child.
