As a leaf withers without the branch, so too a life without My refreshing. A child plays without care. Speech is not important. Unaware of others, upset often but in worry little, the child seeks for his own world, and great grace is given. Then in growth, what was overlooked by the father is now taught in discipline, that the youth might put away childish things. It is also true in the Kingdom, for what was acceptable in your new birth grows further as the old passes away. The new leaf springs forth from the branch; with moisture in it, flesh anew from its unfurling. But now in the day’s full sun, it must draw from the branch, living water for each day in the heat and dry wind. Without this drawing of what is lost, it too shall be lost. Seek Me in My Word that you might be nourished for the day. Bring to Me your prayer. He who seeks will find quenching, but he who stands alone faints for parching. You are no longer new growth. Seek what will sustain that you will not whither under the great heat.
Psalm 63:1 (ESV) – O God, you are my God; earnestly I seek you; my soul thirsts for you; my flesh faints for you, as in a dry and weary land where there is no water.
Bottom Line: Our world is a constant draw on our time and energy. Days go by like minutes, and a week can fly by in what seems like a couple of days. We go to bed exhausted, and maybe wake up exhausted too. In the beginning of our walk with Christ, He lets us go quite awhile on our own steam. As we progress on our spiritual journey, it seems by design, we can’t seem to handle as much. The strength we once had is no longer enough. Our Father does not want us running on our own strength; He wants us running on His. If you are feeling overwhelmed lately, or if you feel dry and lifeless, think about when was the last time you sat at His feet. You may just be thirsty.
