Man’s words can injure and also build. With the lips there is great power, but as the drop is to the oceans, so the word of man to the Word of God. The wisdom of man lies deep in the trees, while the wisdom of your Lord from the heavens looks down on the forests of the earth. Then what will you speak? Those of your own, or the utterances of the eternal Father who brings life to all, and through His Word brings life eternal? To know My Word is the wellspring of life, giving forth night and day, that abundant life would be for those who drink its depth. Man’s tongue can be lost to words, but He who holds My Word in his heart, gives forth echoing light, bringing the fullness of life, returning back to the Father in praise for its accomplished work. Speak, that My voice be as thunder in the hearts of its hearers, that the echo would return full from which it came.
Hebrews 4:12 (ESV) – For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Bottom Line: Often we just don’t know what to say. Even if we think we do, it does not come out as we wanted. Working side-by-side with people allows us the opportunity and privilege of drawing close. When we do, sometimes we see suffering, pain or destructive behavior, and sometimes we are asked for advice, or feel in our hearts that we should give some. Be careful. The Word of God is infinitely better than our own sage advice. So before you give it, check with the Word of Life, that when you exercise the privilege of speaking into another’s life, it will be more than your opinion; it will be life-giving.
