Taking It to Work:
Our culture loves a superhero, one who can muscle through adversity, defeat resistance from all sides, and make sure the bad guys get it in the end. The story is even better if you start as the disadvantaged underdog, and end up on top – but that’s just the movies.
You know what happens in the real world when you go it alone; you generally fail, at least in some aspect of life. In fact, the “Rambo” mentality is almost a sure way toward financial mistakes, personal fatigue, health issues, and family stress. When we look only to ourselves for answers, often those answers lead us away from God’s best for our lives.
It may be faster not to deal with a partner’s or coworker’s opinion or idea, or to run that investment idea by the Lord and wait for answers. You may be even tempted to skip that discussion with your spouse if you think it’s going to be an issue or a debate, but if you take the time to look at the scriptures for today, and meditate on what our Lord may be speaking to you, I think you will find it clear that God does not want you going it alone.
We are better together. He did that on purpose. We are to link arms, hearts and minds not only with our Lord, but with the brothers and sisters in Christ whom He has blessed us with, as His Word works though each of us, today.
Eccl 4:9-10 (ESV) – Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their toil. For if they fall, one will lift up his fellow. But woe to him who is alone when he falls and has not another to lift him up!
Luke 10:1 (ESV) – After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them on ahead of him, two by two, into every town and place where he himself was about to go.
Proverbs 15:22 (ESV) – Without counsel plans fail, but with many advisers they succeed.
Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):
Together I send you, for no man who walks alone is stronger for it. Suffering happens in isolation. Decisions are poor without counsel. The warrior alone falls, for easily is he overpowered. In all your toil seek Me, that I would show you strength in another. A partnership blessed is great gain. Selfish motives have destroyed what I have created to be holy. My people are not to walk alone, called by two or more, for in the brotherhood of the faithful there is great wisdom and protection. The world paints a false illusion of strength. My people are stronger together in My Name. Look for those who walk with Me, that you would not walk alone.
