Taking It to Work:
In many ways, others are introduced to our God, not through church, or even scripture, but their first introduction is by seeing His reflection, and His work, in us. What that means is that everywhere we go, everyone we meet, including at work, we are introducing to them what Christianity looks like in a real person. They may not understand that it is His Word and Holy Spirit dwelling within us that makes us likable, easy to talk to, or helpful. Once they get to know us, if we’re not too shy about our faith, they will realize that what they are seeing are the changes that have occurred in us since our conversion. And to be clear, that story, and the changed person you and I are, is our testimony – your testimony.
You may labor for years right next to a great fellow co-worker, but they really have never heard your testimony, because they have never got to truly know you. The story of your great rescue – the sacrifice of Christ transforming you from who you once were, to who you are now. That story can make all the difference. It is your personal introduction for those around you to your your faith, and your Lord.
They may not be ready to jump in the car with you for your next church service, but your presence next to them is no coincidence.
Get to know who God placed there. Be brave and when the timing is right, plant the seed of your testimony in their heart. Pray for that right timing, and be ready when the timing comes about. Maybe one day, many years from now, it will be your story that has a part in making their life story one of great celebration!
It’s easy. Invite them to lunch. Let them get to know you, and you them, and watch His Word work through you, today.
1 Peter 3:15 (NIV) – But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord. Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have. But do this with gentleness and respect.
Romans 1:16 (ESV) -For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.
Colossians 4:5-6 (ESV) – Walk in wisdom toward outsiders, making the best use of the time. Let your speech always be gracious, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how you ought to answer each person.
Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):
Do those who work alongside know you are My child? Do they know the forgiveness extended? Do they know they neither are worthy, but are also called? Do not let the years pass and the tree be barren of fruit. You have been redeemed, that My grace and calling would come through you. One flame lights another; do not hide under the bushel what is meant for others. Do not fear their response, for a gentle word from you will not offend. My Spirit calls you forward, and I Am with you. Allow them to know your healing, that they too would desire freedom offered for the oppressed, given a key from My hand through you. Do not fear the judgment of man, as it is My own only that must be feared. Reach, that they might know you, and My Name, through you.
