Taking It to Work:

Our devotional today talks about our very jobs being a distraction to eternal productivity. It is easy to get pulled into the “busy”. It is said that staying busy is easy, but staying productive is difficult. It can be that way both in a purely secular career, and also in the Kingdom.

Now here at FCCI, we believe that there are no purely secular careers, as it is a calling for each of us to use the platforms of our jobs and positions to influence for the Kingdom those around us. The way we serve, our attitudes, our interactions and demeanor, the extra few minutes to show we care, our knowledge of His Word and ways, all would bring to the workplace what the workplace would not have unless we were there.

So, in that light, everyday is a mission into the world to affect the world, one work day at a time. Keeping that perspective is what God wants, but if we are not careful, our jobs will, in our minds, lose that higher purpose, especially when the normal, everyday “busy” carries us away.

Now, it is tough to do both well. Some are great at it, some of us, well not so much, but with His help, we can do so much more than on our own. Paul prays in our scripture, ” . . . to Him that can do abundantly more than we can ask or imagine . . . ,” and He’s talking about doing abundantly more “through us”.

We understand the tasks of the day can make us very busy, but let’s ask for His help, that we would not lose our productivity for Him, as His Word, works through our busy lives, today.

Prv 16:3 (ESV) – Commit your work to the Lord, and your plans will be established.
Prv 19:21 (ESV) – Many are the plans in the mind of a man, but it is the purpose of the Lord that will stand.
Phil 2:2 (ESV) – Let each of you look not only to his own interests, but also to the interests of others.
Ps 96:3 (ESV) – Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous works among all the peoples!

Listening to the Holy Spirit (Rhema):

If you are truly My child, then fully your life is offered for My Kingdom. I do not call you out of the world, but to bring My Kingdom to the world. A trap for My children is this: In the doing of the world, that the doing of the Kingdom would be lost. The tasks of the workplace can overwhelm, as also the tasks of the Kingdom. In your own strength you are limited, but call to Me and seek My will, and limitations are lifted with My hand, tasks blessed with My favor, barriers removed, help and time given. By operating within My will and leading, your life bears My fruit abundantly – thirty, fifty and a hundred-fold.
